Tonight, the Sky

,
Twilight settles over distant mountains; two early stars glimmer above the horizon, the sky exhaling its last light into calm darkness.
The sky above Taos, NM … finally at rest … a quiet surrender to its own becoming.

Tonight, the Sky

Tonight, the sky laid down its chainmail of sunfire,
unclenched its fist,
softened into the clouds
and set free the storms it had been holding within.

Tonight, the sky set aside
all the expectations of what it should be...
sunny and clean,
far-reaching and obedient...
let go of the pressure to shine,
to stretch wide,
to impress.
It closed its eyes
and welcomed the dark inside.

Only to find
the light of the stars,
companionship from the moon,
a quiet dance between mystery and glow.

Tonight, the sky stopped chasing tomorrow,
settled deeply into Now,
stopped following the ever-changing clouds,
letting them drift
like fading signals
into the horizon of yesterday.
