A Litany of Questions

I wrote these questions on a night when my heart felt heavy with longing.

Longing for deeper conversations. For authentic connection.

For someone to ask me the things that matter, and for the courage to ask them of others.

This is my letter of questions to the world, and perhaps to you.

An invitation to sit together in what is real.

A Litany of Questions

Have you ever watched a sunrise at a mountain lake?
Have you stood before life, witness to the awakening earth?
Have you felt the world shift around you as night turns to day?
Have you beheld the vision of both the stars and the first light of the sun in the same breath?
What did it make you feel?
Did your heart open?

Have you ever danced in complete abandon with joy,
Raised your head to the sky,
Tilted your neck to the stars,
And taken the moon by the hand?
Did you laugh without apology?

Can you go back to those moments of childhood when joy was your right,
And every tomorrow held a bouquet of promises so bold and bright
That the world was born anew each day?
Paint it across the sky for me.
Do you remember?

Do you know what it is to be lonely when you have no right to be?
Even with love all around?
When you close your eyes and feel overwhelmed by the love you’ve been given,
Yet yearn so desperately for that quiet cup of coffee with a friend?
Did you ache for it?

Tell me:
Did fear ever bind you?
Shut you in the attic of your own being?
So unseen in your truth that you begin to question... who is the real me?
Did you tremble?

Have you ever read a poem that stripped all the layers of armor from your heart,
Reached out with bare hands,
And touched the quiet, trembling truth you thought no one would ever see?
Did you feel seen?

Have you ever wanted something so badly,
Prayed for it, begged for it,
Would have traded anything for a chance...
And then had to learn to live with never even glimpsing it?
Did it change you?

Did you know such sorrow that you didn’t know how tomorrow could possibly come?
Did you survive?
When the world buzzed around you and you could only stand still, frozen in time,
Your heart sinking into emptiness?

What are the truest words you’ve ever spoken?
The ones that tasted like truth and fear at the same time?
Did you whisper them? Or shout?

What happened in your moment of epiphany?
When everything you thought you knew split open to reveal something so simple, so true?
The path was yours, and you could bravely take it.
Tell me, proudly, of your triumph.

Tell me:
Have you ever yearned to ask these of another?
To see their spirit bloom in warmth as they profess their love in the true answers?
Will you ask them now?

I share these questions in the hope they’ll find the quiet places in you.
May they invite you to listen deeply - to yourself, and to those you love.
