I Can’t Help But See It

Closeup photograph of a single autumn leaf, rich in orange and amber tones, with visible cracks and veins. The background is softly blurred, creating a sense of depth and warmth. The image evokes stillness, beauty, and quiet introspection.
Not just a leaf. A way of seeing. A quiet yes to being seen.

I can’t help but see it...
do you see it too?
This beauty everywhere,
the kind that makes the heart beat faster,
that brings your soul to tears,
that drops you to your knees in reverence
as gratitude slowly floats across the sky.

I can’t help but wish I could share it with the world,
to paint a picture
that all of humankind might finally see.
Or simply…
to sit beside you
on a quiet park bench,
beneath the cottonwoods,
as I point out something small and holy,
and you exhale,
“Yes. I see it too.”

And then you...
with a spark in your voice,
“But have you thought about this?
Have you seen that?”

Time slows.
We walk away lighter,
in both weight and weariness,
bathed in the warm glow of knowing...
I see you.
And you see me.
